Are
you a ‘Disabled Person’?
Defining
disability is always a challenge and we have kept the definition as broad
as possible here to ensure we can support as many businesses as possible.
As such, we’re
using the definition as it stands in the Disability Discrimination Act:
“A physical or
mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a
person’s ability to carry out normal day to day activities”
This can
include a massive range of impairments – the following list is just a
few examples of impairments people have that may meet the
definition without them knowing it:
Diabetes
Depression
Asthma
Epilepsy
Arthritis
Cancer
(including post remission)
AIDS / HIV
MS
ME
Fibromyalgia
Bronchitis
Hearing
Impairment (Range of severity)
Visual
Impairment (Range of Severity)
If you’re at
all unsure please make sure you get in touch to talk it through with us in
more detail
As an
organisation, our commitment is always to the Social Model of Disability
and we see DDEC as being an important tool for implementing this definition
